1. Former CBDT chief K V Chowdary has been appointed Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) and Information Commissioner Vijai Sharma Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) after these two key posts were lying vacant for more than 9 months now.

Chairman and MD of Indian Bank, T M Bhasin has also been appointed as vigilance commissioner and Sudhir Bhargava has been named as information commissioner. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge recommended their names last week which were approved by the President Pranab Mukherjee.

2. Indian Airlines Companies Spice Jet and Go Air have entered into an alliance with IRCTC to sell wait listed tickets on the IRCTC website. It will enable train travellers with wait-listed tickets to cancel the train ticket and instead get on to a flight of either airline by paying some incremental fee.

3. Indian Athlete Tintu Luka won her maiden gold in a major international event by winning the women’s 800m finals as India finished with five medals on the final day of competitions to complete at third position in the 21st Asian Athletics Championships. India won 4 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze medals in the championships to finish third behind China (15, 13, 13) and Qatar (7, 2, 1).
